South Okanagan Breweries

There is a saying that it takes a lot of great craft beer to make fine wine. It is a natural fit then, that in the middle of BC’s wine country, the South Okanagan also has a dynamic beer scene with eleven craft breweries.

We have some of BC’s oldest craft breweries and some of BC’s newest craft breweries as well as the home of the annual Okanagan Fest of Ale in Penticton, one of BC’s premier and long-standing craft beer festivals.

Penticton has been a leader of the Okanagan craft beer scene for 25 years with a strong community of seven craft breweries which collectively make up the Penticton Ale Trail. And in 2020, that legacy was recognized by Lonely Planet when it named Penticton Canada’s “craft beer capital.”

A short drive to the North along Hwy 97, Summerland is home to Detonate Brewing and further South along Hwy 97 in Oliver, bunkered below the ‘Old Firehall’ is Firehall Brewery.

Make the South Okanagan your next craft beer destination!

Tin Whistle Brewing Company

Beer Taps at Tin Whistle Brewing

Tin Whistle Brewing opened in 1995.  It was the first microbrewery in the South Okanagan. A pioneer in the world of craft beer. Through the years, this family owned brewery has created many exciting brews.

“We are known for our quality, innovative brews. All our ales are preservative and chemical free. We try to support Canadian products and source our ingredients locally”.

As the popularity of local brews rages on, the fan base for Tin Whistle Brewing continues to grow. Lorraine Nagy has been the owner of the since 1998 – she laughs at what was supposed to be a five year plan turning into 20+, but she loves it.  Now making 10 types of beer at their brewery in Penticton, Nagy says it is full steam ahead.

Neighbourhood Brewing

Neighbourhood Brewing was a concept between friends, years in the making. Our group of lifelong friends took a group trip to Penticton to enjoy the sun and scenery and fell in love. We spent days and nights on the beaches, exploring the wineries, and admiring everything about this city. When we headed back to our daily lives, we still dreamed of the Penticton lifestyle.
